Bristol Motor Speedway & Dragway
In the early fall of 1960, two young visionaries stood in the middle of 100 acres of Northeast Tennessee pastureland with dreams of bringing lightning-fast automobiles to a quiet, conservative region. Hoping to provide some entertainment for local residents—Larry Carrier and Carl Moore never expected their small, intimate race track to become a world-renowned and widely-revered cathedral of horsepower, but that’s exactly what happened. In the beginning, the track held less than 20,000 people. One concrete racing surface and less than half a century later, Bristol Motor Speedway plays host to more than 160,000 fans and national television audiences twice a year.
