2010 Wayne Scott Strawberry Festival & Parade
UNICOI - It’s strawberry time in Unicoi! And time once again for the annual Wayne Scott Strawberry Festival! Named in honor of the late Wayne Scott, founder of Scott’s Strawberries, this lively festival gathering celebrates the simple life with good-natured family fun, beautiful arts and crafts, toe-tapping, down-home bluegrass and bursting baskets full of ripe, red, juicy Scott’s strawberries to sweeten up the fun.
The grassy field behind Unicoi Elementary School sets the stage for this springtime party which officially begins this year with a razz-ma-tazz kick-off parade at 9 am! The parade will begin on Unicoi Drive at I-26 Exit 32 and march along down Unicoi Drive to Massachusetts Avenue and the festival grounds. Line up to cheer on the best of our community and our county!
Then head on down to the festival, which runs from 10 am to 6 pm, and stay for a crowd-pleasing line-up of the region’s best bluegrass musicians. Browse the array of unique handmade arts and crafts pieces, try your hand at the corn hole tournament (sponsored by the Clinchfield Senior Center), admire vintage cars!
Test your skill at pie-throwing, the dunking booth (calling all volunteers for this soaking good time!), drool over delectable strawberry recipe contest dishes, and take the edge off your hunger with some of the best homemade hamburgers, hot dogs, fajitas, strawberry sundaes, and berry dippers our local fund raising churches and civic organizations can dish up!
The 2010 Wayne Scott Strawberry Festival is set for Saturday, May 15 from 10 am to 6 pm. Come on out to our backyard and have some hometown fun!
Take Exit 32 off I-26, right on Unicoi Drive and watch for the signs. For more information, call Unicoi Town Hall at (423) 743-7162.
